About Me
The last 1.5 years I have been working and training diligently to become an Officiant under the philosophy of Humanism.
In a world divided by religion and other socially-constructed identities designed to keep us divided, becoming a Humanist has become vital to build community with shared common beliefs. Humans, animals and the environment first, before ideas. Ideas like ethnicity, like religion that makes us forget we are all equal and LOVE is what binds us.
As Humans, we crave ritual, and ritual is what builds community.
Becoming an Officiant means I can officially marry anyone who is a consenting adult in Ontario under the Marriage Act.
I am also trained to perform the following ceremonies:
-
Renewal of marriage vows;
-
Funerals & End-of-life celebrations;
-
Children-welcoming ceremonies: (babies, blended-family children, adopted children)
-
Transgender Naming Ceremonies
-
Divorce Ceremonies: yes! Divorce is not a failure; it is a rite of passage. Great for children impacted by divorce to reinforce they are still a family - just different!
-
Coming of age ceremonies, which acknowledges and celebrates, supports and honours a person's age wisdom and power: (youth, middle age and elders - (eg. "croning"/wise person).
We can actively embrace our life experiences. Through ceremony, we celebrate who we are, where we are, and why we are.
Join me at @modernhumaniststudio, where I explore and share humanist concepts in the hopes we as Humans learn we are a wonderful community beyond religion, class, country and ethnic identity, bound by love.
Oh! What we can accomplish together!!!
